Trāblus, Jewel on the Mediterranean. At a time when more than one city in the Mediterranean and Arab world is building a museum to glorify the past and celebrate the present, Trāblus is, at its core, a living museum city!
Three thousand years old, Trāblus is driven by the passionate infatuation of its citizens for the wonders it has to offer; by the burning passion of its inhabitants for the generous, tolerant way of life that their society has spawned; and by their attachment to the balance between simplicity and pride that characterizes their disposition.
Now that the fighting has subsided, the Lebanese have begun to discover and get to know each other. They have been won over by the intensity of life and the cultural richness of their “second capital”, which languidly embraces its lovely little port of Mina, the most beautiful headland on the Lebanese coast!
Then, when the Lebanese rose up massively to protest against so many injustices and to claim their legitimate rights, they learned what an impregnable citadel Trāblus was for their cause, a source of strength and invaluable support for the entire popular movement, well engraved in the collective memory.
It is a great pleasure and honor for the Beirut Art Film Festival – BAFF to celebrate Trāblus, the “Cultural Capital of the Arab World 2024” and the Jewel on the Mediterranean yesterday, today and forever.
This special edition of BAFF dedicated to Trāblus’ human and cultural capital would not have been possible without the support of the Saadallah and Loubna Khalil Foundation, the AUB Center for Arts & Humanities, the Théâtre Béryte and the Faculty of Music and Musicology at Antonine University. طرابلس، جوهرة على المتوسط .في وقتنا هذا الذي تنهمك فيه أكثر من مدينةٍ على شاطئ المتوسّط وفي العالم العربي بتشييد متحفٍ يمجّد الماضي ويحتفي بالحاضر، تجد طرابلس نفسها، بأدق تفاصيلها، مدينة المتحف الحي!
طرابلس، التي يبلغ عمرها ثلاثة آلاف عامٍ، يحرّكها حماس أهلها الكبير تجاه الجمال الذي تخفيه، وشغف سكانها الشديد بأسلوب الحياة الكريم والمتسامح الذي منحهم إياه مجتمعهم، وتمسكهم بالتوازن بين البساطة والفخر الذي يميز طبيعتهم.
ومنذ أن هدأت حدّة النزاعات بين اللبنانيين، انشغل هؤلاء في اكتشاف أنفسهم والتعرّف على بعضهم. ومنذ ذلك الحين، سحرهم صخب الحياة في “عاصمتهم الثانية” وغناها الثقافي، وهي التي تعانق بحرارةٍ مرفأها الصغير الجميل الذي يُطلق عليه اسم المينا، وهو أجمل النتوءات التي تتكوّن على الساحل اللبناني.
ثم، عندما نهض اللبنانيون بأعدادٍ كبيرةٍ لرفع الصوت بوجه تراكم الظلم والمطالبة بحقوقهم المشروعة، عَرِفوا أيّ حصنٍ منيعٍ هي طرابلس لقضيّتهم، وأي مصدرٍ للقوة وزخم قيّمٍ منحته لهذا الحراك الشعبي أينما كان، وهو ما بات محفورًا في ذاكرتهم الجماعية.
وبالنسبة إلى مهرجان بيروت للأفلام الفنية، فإن الاحتفاء بطرابلس “العاصمة الثقافية للعالم العربي لعام 2024” وجوهرة المتوسط الأمس واليوم ودائمًـا، لهو مصدر فرح عارمٍ وفخرٍ كبير.
وما كانت هذه الدورة الخاصة من مهرجان بيروت للأفلام الفنية التي خصّصناها للرصيد الإنساني والثقافي الذي تتغنى به طرابلس، لترى النور لولا الدعم الذي تلقّته من مؤسسة سعد الله ولبنى خليل ومركز الفنون والآداب في الجامعة الأمريكية في بيروت ومسرح بيريت وكلية الموسيقى وعلم الموسيقى في الجامعة الأنطونية.

Tripoli, joyau sur la Méditerranée. En ce temps où plus d’une ville autour de la Méditerranée et dans le monde arabe s’attelle à l’édification d’un musée glorifiant le passé et célébrant le présent, Tripoli se trouve être, dans son intégralité, une ville musée vivante !
Trois fois millénaire, Tripoli est portée par l’engouement exalté de ses citoyens pour les beautés qu’elle recèle ; par la passion ardente de ses habitants pour ce mode de vie généreux et tolérant que leur société a engendré et par leur attachement à un équilibre entre simplicité et fierté qui caractérise leur tempérament.
Depuis que leurs luttes se sont tassées, les Libanais ont entrepris à se découvrir et à se connaître. Ils sont désormais conquis par l’intensité de vie et par la richesse culturelle de leur « seconde capitale », laquelle, langoureusement, enlace son joli petit port, Mina, formant ainsi le plus beau promontoire de la côte libanaise !
Puis, quand les Libanais se sont soulevés en masse pour protester contre tant d’injustices et pour revendiquer leurs droits légitimes, ils ont appris quelle imprenable citadelle fut Tripoli pour leur cause ; quelle source de force et quel appui inestimable pour l’ensemble du mouvement populaire, bien gravés dans la mémoire collective.
Pour le Beirut Art Film Festival – BAFF c’est, tout à la fois, une grande joie et un insigne honneur que de célébrer Tripoli « capitale culturelle du monde arabe 2024 » et joyau sur la Méditerranée hier, aujourd’hui et pour toujours.
Cette édition spéciale du BAFF consacrée au capital humain et culturel de Tripoli n’aurait pu se faire sans le soutien de la Fondation Saadallah et Loubna Khalil, du AUB Center for Arts & Humanities, du Théâtre Béryte et de la Faculté de musique et musicologie de l’Université Antonine.
