Watch as Greek conductor Teodor Currentzis works on Beethoven’s Ninth with his ensemble, MusicAeterna. Follow Chinese composer and Oscar winner Tan Dun as he creates a new composition inspired by the great Beethoven symphony. Experience the Orchestre Symphonique Kimbanguiste in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as they play the Ninth. Visit a favela in Brazil, where Beethoven’s music helps people get off the streets. Be amazed as a choir of 10,000 in Japan sings the final chorus of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with great enthusiasm. Learn how Paul Whittaker helps make Beethoven accessible for deaf people. And find out how British DJ Gabriel Prokofiev performs a symphonic remix of Beethoven’s Ninth.

La popularité de la Symphonie no 9 de Beethoven est incontestable. Comment et pourquoi cette reconnaissance est aujourd’hui mondiale ? Le film retrace le succès de la symphonie à travers plusieurs rencontres et témoignages : du chef d’orchestre grec Teodor Currentzis, au compositeur chinois Tan Dun, de l’Orchestre Symphonique Kimbanguiste en République Démocratique du Congo jusqu’à une favela brésilienne, de Barcelone, où Paul Whittaker rend Beethoven accessible aux personnes sourdes et malentendantes au Japon où chaque année un chœur de 10 000 personnes entonne l’Hymne à la joie, jusqu’au DJ britannique Gabriel Prokofiev qui propose un remix symphonique de la Neuvième de Beethoven. Ce film est un hymne à la joie, et rend compte de l’impact de l’art sur l’humanité.
