An all-women talk: 11 female photographers to tell you about male photographers

Eng. In recent years, the narrative surrounding women in photography in Lebanon has evolved significantly. While historical challenges and inequalities once dominated the discourse, today’s reality presents a paradox: women comprise a significant majority in the field, and yet, perceptions persist that photography remains a male-dominated space. This roundtable discussion seeks to challenge these conceptions and explore the complexities of women’s experiences in photography.

Fr. Ces dernières années, le discours entourant les femmes dans la photographie au Liban a considérablement évolué. Alors que les défis historiques et les inégalités dominaient autrefois le débat, la réalité d’aujourd’hui présente un paradoxe : les femmes constituent une majorité significative dans ce domaine, et pourtant, les perceptions persistent selon lesquelles la photographie reste un espace dominé par les hommes. Cette table ronde vise à remettre en question ces conceptions et à explorer les complexités des expériences des femmes en photographie.

خلال السنوات الأخيرة، توسّع الحديث عن النساء في عالم التصوير الفوتوغرافي في لبنان بشكلٍ ملحوظ. وفي حين أن هذا السجال ظل محكوماً لفترة طويلة بالتحديات التاريخية واللامساواة، فواقع الأمر اليوم يطرح مفارقةً أخرى: تشكّل النساء غالبيةً لا يستهان بها في هذا المجال، ومع ذلك لا تزال النظرة السائدة هي أن التصوير الفوتوغرافي هو مجال يسيطر عليه الرجال. تهدف هذه الطاولة المستديرة إلى طرح هذا التصوّر قيد البحث وإلى الغوص في تعقيدات تجارب النساء مع التصوير.

Discussion with Dr. Ghada Waked

Ghada Waked, with a keen interest in art and photography, holds a degree in Fine Arts, in Photography, as well as master’s degrees in Art History and Economics. Following her PhD thesis, she developed a holistic approach to art, exploring economics, image theory, and urban spaces. Founder of the Beirut Biennial for the Image – BIB, and Albedo creative platform, she blends intellectual rigor with creativity.

Ghada Waked, avec un vif intérêt pour l’art et la photographie, est titulaire d’un diplôme de Beaux-Arts en Photographie, ainsi que de masters en Histoire de l’Art et en Économie. Après sa thèse de doctorat, elle a développé une approche holistique de l’art, explorant l’économie, la théorie de l’image et les espaces urbains. Fondatrice de la Biennale de l’Image de Beyrouth-BIB et d’Albedo Creative Platform, elle allie rigueur intellectuelle et créativité.

غادة واكد: حاصلة على دبلوم فنون جميلة في التصوير، وماستر في تاريخ الفن والاقتصاد، وهي واسعة الاهتمام بالفن والتصوير. بعد مناقشة أطروحة الدكتوراه، وضعت مقاربة شاملة عن الفن، متبحرةً في الاقتصاد والنظريات حول الصورة والمساحات الحضرية. وبفضل اتقانها الجمع بين الجانبين الفكري والإبداعي، استطاعت تأسيس بينالي بيروت للصورة – BIB ومنصة ألبيدو الإبداعية.
