Sonic Screens – A Journey Through Films, Sounds & Music

Cynthia Zaven is a pianist, composer, sound artist, and professor of classical piano at the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music. Her work explores the relationships between sound, memory, and identity at the intersection of music, film, and the visual and performing arts.
Her compositions have shaped contemporary ensemble works, stage productions, and original soundtracks. She has collaborated with vocalists and musicians such as the Neue Vocalsolisten, the Ensemble Modern, and the Danapris String Quartet. Her film scores include The Valley by Ghassan Salhab and Tramontane by Vatche Boulghourjian, alongside singular cine-concerts such as Palestine, A Revised Narrative, presented in Berlin, London, Beirut, and at the Pordenone Silent Film Festival.
Her installations and videos, where archive, sound, and image intertwine, have been exhibited in museums, biennials, and international events, including Ars Electronica in Linz, the MAXXI Museum in Rome, and the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London. Her film scores have featured in major film festivals, including Cannes, Berlin, Locarno, Toronto, São Paolo, and IDFA.
Working across disciplines, Zaven creates a language of image and sound that continually reinvents narrative. Her works have been honored with multiple international distinctions.

سينتيا زافين: رسّامةٌ وموسيقيةٌ وفنانةٌ صوتية وأساتذة بيانو في المعهد الوطني العالي للموسيقى في لبنان. يتمحور عملها حول الروابط بين الصوت والذاكرة والهوية حيث تتلاقى الموسيقى والسينما والفنون البصرية والأدائية. تترك أعمالها بصمةً على مقطوعات الفرق الموسيقية المعاصرة والأعمال المسرحية والموسيقى التصويرية. كما تعاونت مع فرقٍ موسيقيةٍ مثل ’نويه فوكالسوليستن‘ و’أنسامبل مودرن‘ و’كواتوور دانابريس‘ وألّفت موسيقى بعض الأفلام مثل La Vallée  “الوادي” لغسان سلهب و Tramontane  “ترامونتان” لفاتشي بولغورجيان، بالإضافة إلى عروض فردية مثل Palestine, A Revised Narrative “فلسطين، سردية منقّحة”، وهو عبارة عن حفلٍ سينمائيٍ عُرض في برلين ولندن وبيروت وفي مهرجان بوردينوني للأفلام الصامتة. أما أعمال الفيديو والتركيبات الفنية، التي يتناغم فيها الأرشيف والأصوات والصور، فقد عُرضت في متاحف وبيناليات وفعاليات دولية مثل آرس إلكترونيكا في لينز ومتحف ماكسي في روما ومعهد الفن المعاصر في لندن، كما رافقت مؤلفاتها الموسيقية أفلامًا سينمائيةً عُرِضت في مهرجانات مثل كان وبرلين ولوكارنو وتورنتو وساو باولو ومهرجان إدفا الدولي للموسيقى.
يُمثّل عملها تداخلاً دائمًا بين مختلف الميادين، فهو عبارة عن أبياتٍ شعريةٍ توصف الصورة والصوت الذي لا ينفكّ يعيد ابتكار السردية. وقد حازت أعمالها على العديد من الجوائز على الساحة العالمية.
