ENG. Haykal, a 60-year-old Christian farmer, lives in a mountain region in northern Lebanon, a few kilometers from Syria. It’s a complex geopolitical area, plagued by sectarian tensions, fear and despair, and consequently deserted by many of its population. Haykal fights to stay and defend his existence, far from any kind of slogan, with the strength of his hands alone. He becomes the soul of this reclusive land, a life lesson in these times shaped by migration.
The film, directed by Eliane Raheb, won several awards and was screened at numerous festivals around the world. Haykal’s son, who had left Lebanon, has since returned to his village to take over the family business.
FR. Haykal, un fermier chrétien âgé de 60 ans, vit dans une région montagneuse au nord du Liban, à quelques kilomètres de la Syrie. C’est une zone géopolitiquement complexe, où règnent des tensions sectaires, la peur et le désespoir, et qui dès lors est désertée par de nombreux habitants. Haykal lutte pour y rester et défendre son existence loin des slogans, avec la seule force de ses mains. Il devient l’âme de cette terre recluse, une leçon de vie en ces temps marqués par les migrations.
Le film, réalisé par Eliane Raheb, a été récompensé par plusieurs prix et projeté dans de nombreux festivals à travers le monde. Depuis, le fils de Haykal, qui avait quitté le Liban, est rentré dans son village, reprendre en main l’affaire familiale.
هيكل، مزارع مسيحيّ يبلغ من العمر ٦٠ عامًا، يعيش في منطقة جبلية في شمال لبنان، على بعد كيلومترات قليلة من سوريا. هي منطقة معقدة من الناحية الجيوسياسية، حيث تسود التوترات الطائفية والخوف واليأس، وهي بالتالي مهجورة من قبل العديد من السكان. يكافح هيكل للبقاء هناك والدفاع عن وجوده بعيدًا عن الشعارات، بقوة يديه فقط. فيصبح روح هذه الأرض المنعزلة، ودرسًا في الحياة، في هذه الأوقات التي تميّزت بالهجرة. مُنِحَ الفيلم، الذي أخرجته إليان راهب، عدة جوائز وعُرِضَ في العديد من المهرجانات حول العالم. منذ ذلك الحين، عاد نجل هيكل، الذي غادر لبنان، إلى قريته، وتولّى أعمال العائلة بنفسه.

Eliane Raheb is a Lebanese director who has produced several short films and documentaries that have won awards at international festivals. Her main feature-length documentaries are :
Miguel’s War made its world premiere at Berlinale 2021 and won the Teddy Award for Best Feature Film. Since then, it has been shown at over 50 festivals and garnered 6 awards.
Âme qui vive was shown in over 70 film festivals and won 7 awards, including the Etoile de la Scam in 2018.
Nuits sans sommeil was featured in 80 festivals and won 5 awards. It ranked 5th among the best documentaries of 2013 by Sight and Sound magazine. The film is currently streaming on Netflix.
Eliane Raheb is also a founding member of the Beirut DC association established in 1999, where she programs films for the AFLAMUNA.online platform and acts as artistic director of the Rencontres Environnementales et Filmiques (REEF), which she initiated in the village of Kobeyat in northern Lebanon in 2019.
From 2001 to 2015, she was the artistic director of the Ayyam Beirut Al Cinema film festival (Les Journées Cinéma de Beyrouth).
Eliane Raheb has also taught documentary film at the Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut, and supervised over 200 student documentaries.

De 2001 à 2015, elle est la directrice artistique festival du film Ayyam Beirut Al Cinema (Les Journées Cinéma de Beyrouth).

إليان راهب مخرجة لبنانية أنتجت العديد من الأفلام القصيرة والوثائقيات، حصدت العديد من الجوائز في مختلف المهرجانات الدولية. من أبرز ما أخرجته من وثائقيات طويلة:
أعنف حب: الذي عُرض للمرة الأولى في مهرجان برلين السينمائي الدولي في العام 1202 وحصد جائزة تيدي لأفضل فيلم طويل. ومن بعدها عُرض الفيلم في أكثر من خمسين مهرجاناً وحصد ست جوائز.
ميّل يا غزّيل: الذي شارك في أكثر من سبعين مهرجاناً سينمائياً وحصد سبع جوائز من بينها جائزة نجمة سكام في العام 8102.
ليالي بلا نوم: الذي شارك في ثمانين احتفالاً وحصد خمس جوائز. وقد صنّفته مجلة سايت أند ساوند في المركز الخامس من بين أفضل الوثائقيات في العام 3102. والفيلم يُعرض حالياً على نتفليكس.
كما أن إليان الراهب عضواً مؤسساً في جمعية بيروت دي سي التي انطلقت في العام 9991، حيث تنظّم عرض أفلامٍ على منصة أفلامُنا.اونلاين وتشغل منصب المديرة الفنية في مهرجان أيام ريفية وسنيمائية FEER الذي أطلقته في قرية القبيات الشمالية اللبنانية في العام 9102. من العام 1002 حتى 5102، شغلت منصب المديرة الفنية في مهرجان فيلم أيام بيروت السينمائية. كما كانت إليان راهب مدرّسة صفوف الوثائقيات في جامعة القديس يوسف في بيروت وأشرفت على أكثر من مئتي فيلم وثائقي طلابي.
