Directed by Stefanie Brockhaus and Andreas Wolff, The Poetess is a documentary that follows Hissa Hilal, a Saudi woman who defies cultural norms by entering the traditionally male Million’s Poet competition. Through her powerful poems, Hissa Hilal tackles social issues, questioning gender roles and advocating women’s rights. The film offers an intimate glimpse into her journey, asserting her resilience and the impact of her courageous words on a global scale.

Réalisé par Stefanie Brockhaus et Andreas Wolff, The Poetess est un documentaire qui suit Hissa Hilal, femme saoudienne qui défie les normes culturelles en participant au concours Million’s Poet, traditionnellement masculin. À travers ses poèmes percutants, Hissa Hilal aborde des questions sociétales, remettant en question les rôles dévolus aux hommes et aux femmes en plaidant en faveur des droits des femmes. Le film offre un aperçu intime de son parcours, affirmant ainsi sa résilience et l’impact de ses mots courageux à l’échelle mondiale.

“الشاعرة” فيلم وثائقيّ من إخراج ستيفاني بروكهاوس وأندرياس وولف، يروي قصّة حصّة هلال، وهي امرأة سعودية تتحدّى الأعراف الثقافية من خلال مشاركتها في مسابقة “شاعر المليون”، الذي يشارك فيه الرجال تقليديًّا. من خلال قصائدها الصائبة، تتناول حصّة هلال القضايا المجتمعية، وتتساءل عن الدور المناط بالرجل والمرأة، عن طريق الدفاع عن حقوق المرأة. يقدّم الفيلم لمحة حميمة عن مسيرتها، ويؤكّد قدرتها ومدى تأثير كلماتها الشجاعة على النطاق العالميّ.

Andreas Wolff enrolled in 2006 at USC’s Graduate School of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles.He continued his studies at HFF University for TV and Film Munich where he graduated in 2016.
His documentary debut On the Other Side of Life, which he co-directed with Stefanie Brockhaus, had its US premiere 2010 at SXSW film festival. It won Main Feature Film Awards at Milan, Ronda and Camden International Film Festivals. Wolff’s second feature documentary The Captain and his Piratewas officially selected for the 64th Berlin International Film Festival and won the German Camera Award for Best Editing and jury awardson international film festivals like Leipzig, Zagreb, Saarbrucken, Munich and Brussels.
His documentary The Poetesswhich he co-directed with Stefanie Brockhaus premiered at Locarno Film Festival in 2017.

Andreas Wolff s’est inscrit en 2006 à la Graduate School of Cinematic Arts de l’USC à Los Angeles. Il a poursuivi ses études à la HFF University for TV and Film de Munich, où il a été diplômé en 2016.
Son premier documentaire, On the Other Side of Life, qu’il a coréalisé avec Stefanie Brockhaus, a été présenté en première américaine en 2010 au festival du film SXSW. Il a remporté le Main Feature Film Award au Festival International du Film de Milan, puis Ronda et Camden. Le deuxième documentaire de Wolff, The Captain and his Pirate, a été officiellement sélectionné pour le 64e Festival International du Film de Berlin et a remporté le German Camera Award du meilleur montage ainsi que des prix du jury dans des festivals internationaux tels que Leipzig, Zagreb, Saarbrucken, Munich et Bruxelles.
Son documentaire The Poetess, qu’il a coréalisé avec Stefanie Brockhaus, a été présenté en avant-première au Festival du Film de Locarno en 2017.

أندرياس وولف التحق في العام 2006 بكلية العلوم السينمائية في جامعة جنوب كاليفورنيا في لوس أنجلوس، ثم استكمل دراسته في جامعة التلفزيون والسينما في ميونخ وتخرج منها في العام 2016.
وقد عُرض الوثائقي الذي اشترك في إخراجه مع ستيفاني بروكهاوس على الجانب الآخر من الحياة في الولايات المتحدة في العام 2010 ضمن فعاليات مهرجان الأفلام ساوث باي ساوث وست. كما حصد جائزة الفيلم الروائي الأساسي في مهرجان ميلانو السينمائي الدولي ومن ثم جائزة روندا وكامدن. واختار القيّمون على مهرجان برلين السينمائي الدولي فيلمه الوثائقي الثاني القبطان وقرصانه رسمياً للعرض في دورة المهرجان الرابعة والستين، حيث حصد جائزة الكاميرا الألمانية لأفضل مونتاج، إلى جانب جوائز لجنة التحكيم في عدد من المهرجانات مثل ليبسيغ وزغرب وساربريكين وميونخ وبروكسل.
وفي العام 2017 عُرض فيلمه الوثائقي الذي اشترك في إخراجه مع ستيفاني بركهاوس الشاعرة ضمن العرض الأول لمهرجان لوكارنو السينمائي.

Stefanie Brockhaus graduated from London University of the Arts in Film Directing. Her Diploma film went on to win the Lux award for best short film and screened at the MOMA in New York.
Later she studied at the Munich University of Television and Film (HFF), where she specialized in documentary directing. Her first feature documentary On the Other Side of Life was followed by Some Things Are Hard to Talk About and The Poetess.
Stefanie has realized several feature documentaries as producer and director, some of them in collaboration with Andreas Wolff. Their films have screened at international film festivals worldwide and have won numerous awards.

Stefanie Brockhaus est diplômée de l’université des arts de Londres en réalisation cinématographique. Son film de fin d’études a remporté le prix Lux du meilleur court métrage et a été projeté au MOMA de New York.
Elle a ensuite fait des études à l’université de la télévision et du cinéma de Munich (HFF), où elle s’est spécialisée dans la réalisation de documentaires. Son premier long documentaire, On the Other Side of Life, a été suivi par Some Things Are Hard to Talk About et The Poetess.
Stefanie a réalisé plusieurs documentaires en tant que productrice et réalisatrice, dont certains en collaboration avec Andreas Wolff. Leurs films ont été projetés dans des festivals internationaux et ont récolté de nombreux prix.

ستيفاني بروكهاوس: تخرجت من جامعة الفنون بلندن في اختصاص صناعة الأفلام السينمائية. ولقد حصد الفيلم الذي حضّرته لمشروع تخرجها جائزة لوكس لأفضل فيلم قصير وقد عُرض في متحف الفن الحديث في نيويورك.
ثم درست في جامعة التلفزيون والسينما في ميونيخ متخصصةً في مجال صناعة الأفلام الوثائقية. أول وثائقي طويل لها كان بعنوان على الجانب الآخر من الحياة تبعه فيلم بعض الأشياء يصعب التحدث عنها و الشاعرة.
