ENG. Following Canadian craftsman Jason Logan, director Brian D. Johnson takes us on a fascinating journey in the footsteps of one of the world’s oldest materials: ink. Rust, flowers, bark… For Jason Logan, everything is ink, you just have to look beyond things to create new colors, new traces. A real immersion in the history of our world and in the craft tradition, The Color of Ink is a poetic journey along the roads of seven countries, teaching us about the origins of ink (the first traces come from Lebanon!) and its ability to forge ties between regions and eras.

FR. En suivant Jason Logan, artisan canadien, le réalisateur Brian D. Johnson nous plonge dans une fascinante épopée sur les traces de l’un des plus anciens matériaux du monde : l’encre. Rouille, fleurs, écorces… Pour Jason Logan, tout est encre, il suffit de savoir regarder par-delà les choses pour créer de nouvelles couleurs, de nouvelles traces. Véritable immersion dans l’histoire de notre monde et dans le geste artisanal, La couleur de l’encre est un voyage poétique sur les routes de sept pays qui nous apprend les origines de l’encre (les premières traces proviennent du Liban !) ainsi que sa capacité à tisser des liens entre les régions et les époques.

Film Director

Jason Logan is an internationally recognized designer, creative director, author and artist. His illustrations appear regularly in the New York Times, and his fine art has been exhibited in New York City, Los Angeles, Toronto and the Yukon. His work has been recognized by the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Society of Publication Designers, the Centre for Social Innovation and the Canada Council for the Arts. His most recent book, Make Ink: A Forager’s Guide to Natural Inkmaking, was included in The Guardian’s list of best books of 2018. His next book, How to Be a Color Wizard, will be published by MIT’s new children’s division. He is featured in a documentary about ink directed by Brian D. Johnson and produced by Ron Mann, with the support of the National Film Board of Canada.

Jason Logan est un designer, un directeur artistique, un auteur et un artiste de renommée internationale. Ses illustrations paraissent régulièrement dans le New York Times et ses œuvres d’art ont été exposées à New York, Los Angeles et Toronto, ainsi qu’au Yukon. L’American Institute of Graphic Arts, la Society of Publication Designers, le Centre for Social Innovation et le Conseil des arts du Canada ont salué son travail. Son livre le plus récent, Make Ink: A Forager’s Guide to Natural Inkmaking, a été inscrit au palmarès des meilleurs livres de 2018 de The Guardian. جايسون لوغان مصمم ومدير فني ومؤلف وفنان ذو شهرة عالمية. تظهر رسوماته على الدوام في صحيفة نيويورك تايمز وعُرضت أعماله الفنية في نيو يورك ولوس أنجلوس وتورونتو، وفي يوكون أيضاً. وقد لاقت أعماله إشادةً من المعهد الأمريكي لفنون الغرافيك وجمعية مصممي المنشورات ومركز التجديد الاجتماعي ومجلس الفنون في كندا، في حين أن كتابه الذي صدر مؤخراً “صناعة الحبر: الدليل في الكلأ لصناعة الحبر الطبيعية” قد أدرجته الغارديان ضمن لائحة أفضل الكتب في العام 2018. كما سينشر مؤلَّفه القادم “كيف تكون ساحر الألوان” ضمن المجموعة القادمة للأطفال التي يطلقها معهد ماساتشوستس للتكنولوجيا. وجاسون لوغان هو بطل الوثائقي الذي يتحدث عن الحبر من إخراج براين د. جونسون وإنتاج رون مان، بالتعاون مع المكتب الوطني للأفلام في كندا.
