In Skin of Glass, Brazilian director Denise Zmekhol tells the story of her father, Lebanese-born architect Roger Zmekhol, designer of the tallest glass tower in São Paulo, his adopted city and heartland. The film follows Denise’s intimate quest to reconnect with a father who disappeared during her teenage years, as well as her collective commitment to preserving his architectural legacy, threatened by the growing inequalities fracturing the city. Tackling displacement, activism and urbanism, this poetic documentary warns us about the future of cities through the story of the emblematic Pele de Vidro building.

Dans Skin of Glass, la réalisatrice brésilienne Denise Zmekhol raconte l’histoire de son père, Roger Zmekhol, architecte d’origine libanaise, concepteur de la plus haute tour de verre de São Paulo, sa ville d’adoption et de cœur. Le film suit la quête intime de Denise pour renouer avec ce père disparu durant son adolescence, ainsi que son engagement collectif pour préserver son héritage architectural, menacé par les inégalités croissantes qui fracturent la ville. Abordant le déplacement, l’activisme et l’urbanisme, ce documentaire poétique nous alerte sur l’avenir des villes à travers l’histoire de l’emblématique bâtiment Pele de Vidro.

تروي المخرجة البرازيلية دينيس زمخول في فيلم جلد من زجاج قصة والدها روجيه زمخول، المهندس المعماري اللبناني الأصل الذي صمّم أطول برج زجاجي في ساو باولو، المدينة التي احتضنته وعاشت في قلبه. يتتبع الفيلم سعي دينيس الحميم لإعادة التواصل مع هذا الوالد الذي اختفى خلال فترة مراهقتها، إلى جانب مجهودها الجماعي للحفاظ على تراثه المعماري المُهدد بسبب تزايد مستويات اللامساواة التي تشرّخ المدينة. يتطرق هذا الفيلم الوثائقي الشاعري إلى النزوح والعمل الناشط والتخطيط الحضري، ليفتّح أعيننا على مستقبل المدن عبر قصة المبنى الرمزي ’بيليه دي فيدرو‘.

ENG. Denise Zmekhol is an Arab-Brazilian award-winning producer and director of documentary films and media projects. Her documentary films, commercials and innovative transmedia projects have been recognized for their elegant visual style and deft storytelling.
Children of the Amazon, supported by ITVS and broadcast on PBS, received multiple awards at festivals around the world. Denise Zmekhol also co-produced and co-directed Digital Journey, an Emmy Award winning series and co-produced Amir Soltani’s Dogtown Redemption shown on the PBS series, Independent Lens.
As director and producer of Skin of Glass, Denise was the recipient of ITVS, the National Endowment for the Arts, IDA Enterprise Documentary Fund, Latino Public Broadcasting, the Berkeley Film Foundation and several private foundations. She presented the story of Skin of Glass at the Pop-Up Magazine Spring and the TEDWomen.

FR. Denise Zmekhol est une productrice et réalisatrice arabo-brésilienne primée de films documentaires et de projets médiatiques. Ses documentaires, ses publicités et ses projets transmédias innovants ont été reconnus pour leur style visuel raffiné et leur habileté à raconter des histoires.
Children of the Amazon, soutenu par ITVS et diffusé sur PBS, a reçu de nombreux prix dans des festivals du monde entier. Denise Zmekhol a également coproduit et coréalisé Digital Journey, une série récompensée par un Emmy Award, et coproduit Dogtown Redemption d’Amir Soltani, diffusé sur PBS dans le cadre de la série Independent Lens.

دينيس زمخول هي منتجة ومخرجة أفلام وثائقية عربية برازيلية حائزة على جوائز على أفلامها الوثائقية وغيرها من المشاريع الإعلامية. وقد لاقت أفلامها الوثائقية وإعلاناتها الترويجية ومشاريعها الإعلامية الإبداعية استحسانًا لما فيها من أسلوبٍ بصريٍ راقٍ ومهاراتٍ في سرد القصص.
وقد حصد فيلم أطفال الأمازون، الذي دعمته شركة أي تي في أس وعرضته قناة بي بي أس، العديد من الجوائز في المهرجانات حول العالم. كما شاركت دينيس زمخول في إنتاج وإخراج سلسلة رحلة رقمية الحائز على جائزة إيمي وشاركت في إنتاج فيلم خلاص دوغتاون للمخرج أمير سلطاني الذي بثّته شبكة بي بي أس في إطار سلسلة ’العدسة المستقلة‘.
وبصفتها مخرجة فيلم جلد من زجاج ومنتجته، حصلت دينيس على منح من أي تي في أس والصندوق الوطني للفنون وصندوق المشاريع الوثائقية التابع للجمعية الدولية للأفلام الوثائقية وجمعية البث اللاتيني العام ومؤسسة بيركلي للأفلام وغيرها العديد من الجمعيات الخاصة. كما قدّمت قصة جلد من زجاج في عدد الربيع من مجلة بوب آب وفي تيد ويمن.
