ENG. Through some twenty contributions from experts in the fields of heritage, academia, and culture, the documentary revisits the history and significance of the collections at the Oriental Library of Beirut Saint Joseph University, while offering future perspectives on the sustainability of its heritage.

FR. À travers une vingtaine d’interventions d’experts des milieux patrimoniaux, académiques et culturels, le documentaire revient sur l’histoire et l’importance des fonds de la Bibliothèque Orientale de l’Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth, en offrant des perspectives d’avenir quant à la pérennité de son patrimoine.

من خلال حوالي عشرين مداخلة لخبراء من الأوساط التراثية والأكاديمية والثقافية، يعود الفيلم الوثائقي نظرة على تاريخ وأهمية مجموعات المكتبة الشرقية في جامعة القديس يوسف في بيروت، ويقدم وجهات نظر مستقبلية بشأن استدامة تراثها.

Film director

ENG. Bahij Hojeij studied philosophy and theater in Beirut, then cinema at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Louis-Lumière – Université Paris VIII. Since 1990, he has taught cinema (screenwriting and directing) at the Institute of Fine Arts of the Lebanese University. His career began in 1980, with the production of magazines, programs and documentaries for television. With the end of war in Lebanon, he produced and directed several feature-length documentaries, including The Green Line (1987), Beyrouth, dialogue ruines (1993), Le Musée National, défi à l’oubli (1996), Beirut Unveils its Treasures (1997), Kidnapped (1998), Liban message d’une terre sainte (2000), Les moissons de la mémoire (2001), Cités d’Orient, Beyrouth (2001), La Future B.N de Beyrouth (2002), The Bridge of Maameltein (2007), 100 Years of the Press in Lebanon (2007), Beaufort Unveiled (2014) and The Sursock Museum Revisited (2015). Between 2004 and 2011, he produced and directed two feature films: Zennar El Nar (Ring of Fire) and Chatti Ya Dini (Let the Rain Come); both awarded several Arab and international prizes.

FR. Bahij Hojeij a étudié la philosophie et le théâtre à Beyrouth, puis le cinéma à l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure Louis-Lumière – Université Paris VIII. Depuis 1990, il enseigne le cinéma (scénarisation et réalisation) à l’Institut des Beaux-Arts de l’Université Libanaise. Sa carrière débute en 1980, il produit des magazines, des émissions et des documentaires pour la télévision. Avec la fin des combats au Liban, il produit et réalise plusieurs longs métrages documentaires, entre autres La ligne verte (1987), Beyrouth, dialogue ruines (1993), Le Musée National, défi à l’oubli (1996), Beyrouth dévoile ses trésors (1997), Kidnappés (1998), Liban message d’une terre sainte (2000), Les moissons de la mémoire (2001), Cités d’Orient, Beyrouth (2001), La Future B.N de Beyrouth (2002), Le Pont de Maameltein (2007), 100 ans de presse au Liban (2007), Beaufort dévoilé (2014) et Le Musée Sursock revisité (2015). Entre 2004 et 2011, il produit et réalise deux longs métrages : Zennar El Nar (Ceinture de feu) et Chatti Ya Dini (Que vienne la pluie) ; tous deux récompensés par plusieurs prix arabes et internationaux.

بهيج حجيج درس الفلسفة والمسرح في بيروت، ثم السينما في المدرسة الوطنية العليا لويس لوميير– جامعة باريس الثامنة. يقوم منذ عام 1990 بتدريس السينما (كتابة السيناريو والإخراج) في معهد الفنون الجميلة في الجامعة اللبنانية. بدأت مسيرته المهنية عام 1980، حيث أنتج مجلات وبرامج وأفلام وثائقية للتلفزيون. ومع انتهاء الحرب في لبنان، أنتج وأخرج عدة أفلام وثائقية طويلة، منها “الخط الأخضر” (1987)، “بيروت حوار خراب” (1993)، “المتحف الوطني تحدي النسيان” (1996)، “بيروت تكشف عن كنوزها” (1997)، “المخطوفون” (1998)، “رسالة لبنان من أرض مقدسة” (2000)، “حصاد الذاكرة” (2001)، “مدن المشرق، بيروت” (2001)، La future Banque Nationale de Beyrouth (2002)، “جسر المعاملتين” (2007)، “100 عام من الصحافة في لبنان” (2007)، Beaufort dévoilé (2014)، Le Musée Sursock revisité (2015). بين عامي 2004 و2011، أنتج وأخرج فيلمين روائيين: “زنار النار” و”شتي يا دنيي” ؛ وحصل كلاهما على العديد من الجوائز العربية والعالمية.
