ENG. Obsessed with Light is the story of a pioneer of modern dance, American Loïe Fuller (1862-1928), an extraordinary artist who challenged the conventions of her time. Fuller left an enduring mark on the world art scene. Her revolutionary visual creations fascinated filmmakers such as Méliès and Alice Guy, who made her one of the first filmed topics in the history of cinema. Using exceptional archive footage, the film’s directors, Sabine Krayenbühl and Zeva Oelbaum, capture all the grace, inventiveness and power of Loïe Fuller, the “fairy of light”.
FR. Obsessed with Light est le portrait d’une pionnière de la danse moderne, l’américaine Loïe Fuller (1862-1928), artiste hors norme, défiant les conventions de son époque. Fuller a laissé une empreinte indélébile sur la scène artistique mondiale, influence qui perdure. Ses créations visuelles révolutionnaires ont fasciné des cinéastes comme Méliès et Alice Guy, qui en ont fait l’un des premiers sujets filmés de l’histoire du cinéma. Les réalisatrices du film, Sabine Krayenbühl et Zeva Oelbaum, capturent, à l’aide d’images d’archives exceptionnelles, toute la grâce, l’inventivité et la force de Loïe Fuller « fée de la lumière ».

Film director
Zeva Oelbaum is an award-winning filmmaker and still photographer. She co-directed and produced Letters from Baghdad, which was voiced and exec. produced by Tilda Swinton. The film showed theatrically in over 110 theaters worldwide. Oelbaum also produced Ahead of Time, a feature length documentary about journalist Ruth Gruber, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival before garnering six Best Documentary awards. Oelbaum comes to film from a career in still photography and her work has been published in periodicals such as The New York Times Magazine and collected in public collections such as the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, and The Brooklyn Museum. Two monographs of Oelbaum’s photographs have been published by Rizzoli International Publishers and her work has been reviewed in publications including ARTnews. She is a magna cum laude graduate of Brandeis University and a member of the Producers Guild.
Zeva Oelbaum est une réalisatrice et photographe primée. Elle a coréalisé et produit Letters from Baghdad, dont la voix et la production exécutive ont été assurées par Tilda Swinton. Le film a été projeté dans plus de 110 salles de cinéma dans le monde entier. Zeva Oelbaum a également produit Ahead of Time, un long métrage documentaire sur la journaliste Ruth Gruber, dont la première a eu lieu au Festival International du Film de Toronto et qui a remporté six prix du meilleur documentaire. Son travail a été publié dans des magazines tels que le New York Times Magazine et fait partie de collections publiques telles que la Bibliothèque nationale de France, le Museum of Fine Arts Houston et le Brooklyn Museum. زيفا أولباوم مخرجة ومصورة فوتوغرافية حائزة على جوائز. شاركت في إخراج وإنتاج فيلم رسائل من بغداد الذي تولّت فيه تيلدا سوينتون إدارة الصوت والإنتاج التنفيذي. وقد عُرض هذا الفيلم في أكثر من 110 دارًا من دور السينما في جميع أنحاء العالم. كما أنتجت زيفا أولباوم الفيلم الوثائقي الطويل قبل الموعد عن الصحفية روث غروبر، الذي عُرض لأول مرة في مهرجان تورنتو السينمائي الدولي وحصد ست جوائز عن أفضل فيلم وثائقي. وقد نُشرت أعمالها في مجلات مثل مجلة نيويورك تايمز، وهي محفوظة ضمن مجموعات عامة مثل مكتبة فرنسا الوطنية ومتحف الفنون الجميلة في هيوستن ومتحف بروكلين. وقد نشرت دار ريزولي الدولية للنشر دراستين عن صور أولباوم الفوتوغرافية، كما نشرت مجلات مثل آرت نيوز مقالاتٍ تعلّق على أعمالها.

Sabine Krayenbühl is an award-winning filmmaker with over twenty theatrical documentaries and narrative features to her credit. She co-directed and edited Letters from Baghdad, which showed in the US in over 70 venues and was broadcast on PBS, ARTE and the BBC. Her editing work includes Oscar and Independent Spirit Award nominated My Architect for which she received an American Cinema Editors (ACE) Eddie Award nomination and the Emmy-winning The Hunt for Planet B. Additional credits include Mad Hot Ballroom, one of the top twenty highest grossing documentaries, The Bridge produced by IFC, Picasso and Braque go to the Movies, produced by Martin Scorsese, Virgin Tales, Ahead of Time, Jennifer Fox’s Emmy nominated My Reincarnation, Salinger on which she consulted and HBO’s The Price of Everything. Krayenbühl has a BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and is a member of NYWIFT and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

سابين كراينبل مخرجة حائزة على الجوائز وفي رصيدها أكثر من عشرين فيلمًا وثائقيًا مخصّصًا للعرض في صالات السينما إلى جانب الأفلام الطويلة ذات الطابع السردي. وقد شاركت في إخراج ومونتاج فيلم رسائل من بغداد الذي عُرض في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية في أكثر من سبعين صالة عرضِ ونُشر على شبكة بي بي أس التلفزيونية ومحطة آرتي وبي بي سي. ومن ضمن الأعمال التي تولّت مونتاجها، فيلم مهندسي الذي ترشّح للأوسكار وجائزة إنديبيندنت سبيريت، وترشّحت عنه لجائزة إيدي التي تمنحها جمعية مونتريي السينما الأمريكية، بالإضافة إلى فيلم البحث عن الكوكب باء الحائز على جائزة إيمي. ومن بين الأعمال الأخرى التي أخرجتها، نذكر صالة الرقص الحامية، وهو واحد من الأفلام الوثائقية العشرين التي حصدت أعلى الإيرادات والجسر الذي أنتجته شركة آي أف سي وبيكاسو وبراك يزوران السينما، من إنتاج مارتن سكورسيس وروايات عذراء وقبل الموعد وتقمّصي لجنيفير فوكس الذي ترشّح لجائزة إيمي وسالينغر الذي كانت مستشارةً لصانعيه وثمن كل شيء من إنتاج إتش بي أوه. تحمل كراينبل درجة الليسانس في الفنون الجميلة من مدرسة تيش العليا للفنون في جامعة نيويورك وهي عضو في منظمة نساء نيويورك في السينما والتلفزيون وفي أكاديمية فنون وعلوم الصور المتحركة.
