ENG. After three decades of war, the destruction wrought by the Islamic State has sparked an unprecedented wave of international solidarity. In response to a call from the Iraqi authorities, archaeologists from around the world are returning to the great sites of Mesopotamia, working to preserve and revive the study of this invaluable heritage. Nineveh, Larsa, and Lagash—once thriving megacities adorned with grand palaces and temples—are now being excavated once more. The film follows researchers and archaeologists as they uncover this extraordinary heritage, shedding light on the early development of urban life in Mesopotamia.

بعد ثلاثة عقودٍ من الحرب، أدّى الدمار الذي خلّفه تنظيم الدولة الإسلامية إلى صعود موجة تضامن عالمية لم يسبق لها مثيل، واستجابةً لدعوة السلطات العراقية، عاد العديد من علماء الآثار من مختلف أرجاء العالم إلى أهم المواقع الأثرية في بلاد ما بين النهرين بغية الحفاظ على هذا الإرث الذي لا يقدّر بثمن، منكبّين مجدّدًا على دراسته. فعادت مدن نينوى ولارسا ولجش إلى ساحة تنقيبٍ – وهي التي كانت في ما مضى مدنًا ضخمةً مزدهرةً بقصورها ومعابدها المهيبة. يتتبّع الفيلم الباحثين وعلماء الآثار لإعادة استكشاف هذا الإرث الاستثنائي، مع تسليط الضوء على أولى أمارات الحياة الحضرية في بلاد ما بين النهرين.

FR. Après trois décennies de guerre, les destructions causées par l’État islamique ont suscité un élan de solidarité internationale sans précédent. En réponse à l’appel des autorités irakiennes, des archéologues du monde entier retournent sur les grands sites de Mésopotamie, afin de préserver et de relancer l’étude de ce patrimoine inestimable. Ninive, Larsa et Lagash — autrefois des mégapoles florissantes dotées de somptueux palais et temples — font à nouveau l’objet de fouilles. Le film suit chercheurs et archéologues dans la redécouverte de cet héritage extraordinaire, mettant en lumière les débuts de la vie urbaine en Mésopotamie.
