ENG. In La vie en kit, architect and director Élodie Delgrave confronts two stories. On the one hand, her own personal story, in which she questioned her calling as an architect at an early age. On the other, the history of architecture in her native Belgium. Indeed, the director grew up in a period of great architectural profusion and desire to renew the urban landscape, and her film attempts to understand these avant-garde figures. Far from a parochial vision of architecture, La vie en kit questions, on the contrary, the ability of architects to constantly rethink their art, particularly in a world that is constantly and rapidly evolving.

FR. Dans La vie en kit, la réalisatrice Élodie Delgrave suit le parcours de quatre pionniers de l’architecture en Belgique, de Charleroi à Bruxelles. En confrontant sa propre histoire à celle de son pays natal, la réalisatrice interroge certains de leurs idéaux architecturaux avant-gardistes, post mai 68. Architecte de formation, Elodie Delgrave montre le fort potentiel social et révolutionnaire de l’architecture, loin d’une vision cloisonnée. Un documentaire foisonnant qui démontre la capacité des architectes de toujours repenser leur art, dans un monde qui ne cesse d’évoluer.

تتبع المخرجة إيلودي ديغافر، في فيلم الحياة في بيوت ثوريّة حديثة، مسار أربعة من روّاد الهندسة المعمارية في بلجيكا، من شارلروا إلى بروكسيل. من خلال مقارنة تاريخها الخاصّ مع تاريخ بلدها الأمّ، تتساءل المخرجة عن بعض مُثُلهم المعمارية الطليعية، بعد أيار ٦٨. وكون إيلودي ديغافر، مهندسة معمارية متخصّصة في مجال التدريب، فهي تُظهِر الإمكانات الاجتماعية العالية والرائدة للهندسة المعمارية، بعيدًا عن النظرة المجزّأة. فيلم وثائقيّ يوضح قدرة المهندسين المعماريين على إعادة النظر في فنّهم بشكل دائم، في عالم يتطوّر باستمرار.

Film Director

Elodie Degavre is an architect, teacher, photographer, author and director living in Brussels.
Passionate about her profession as an architect, which she does not hesitate to use in various forms, she teaches architectural design at the UCLouvain where she is also a researcher. She has worked as a practicing architect on public sites for several Brussels offices. More and more interested in “telling” architecture, she writes regularly for the magazine A+ Architecture in Belgium. Wishing to redefine her practice of architecture by directing it towards a non-specialist public, she is now expanding her activities to include film writing. With “Life, Assembled”, she takes another step towards the public by making a documentary. She thus reconnects with her intuitive love for writing and for images, which she has nourished through an assiduous practice of photography since childhood, and through participation in fiction writing workshops.

Elodie Degavre est architecte, enseignante, photographe, auteure et réalisatrice et réside à Bruxelles.
Passionnée par son métier d’architecte, qu’elle n’hésite pas à décliner sous des formes variées, elle enseigne le projet d’architecture à l’UCLouvain où elle est également chercheuse. Elle a travaillé en tant qu’architecte praticienne sur des chantiers publics, pour le compte de plusieurs bureaux bruxellois. De plus en plus intéressée par « raconter » l’architecture, elle écrit régulièrement pour la revue A+ Architecture in Belgium. Souhaitant redéfinir sa pratique de l’architecture en l’orientant vers un public non spécialiste, elle élargit aujourd’hui ses activités à l’écriture cinématographique. Avec “La vie en kit”, elle fait un pas de plus vers le public en réalisant un documentaire. Elle renoue ainsi avec son amour intuitif pour l’écriture et pour l’image, qu’elle a nourri par une pratique assidue de la photographie depuis l’enfance, et par la participation à des ateliers d’écriture de fiction.

إيلودي دوغافر مهندسة معمارية ومدرسة ومصورة فوتوغرافية ومؤلفة ومخرجة مقيمة في بروكسل. شغوفة بمهنة الهندسة المعمارية ولا تتردد باستخدامها بأشكال مختلفة، فهي تدرّس المشاريع المعمارية في الجامعة الكاثوليكية في لوفان حيث تعمل أيضًا كباحثة. كما عملت مهندسةً معماريةً ممارسةً في المواقع العامة في العديد من مكاتب الهندسة في بروكسل. نظرًا لاهتمامها المتزايد “بالتعريف” بالهندسة المعمارية، فهي كاتبة منتظمة في مجلة A+ Architecture في بلجيكا. ولرغبةٍ لديها في إعادة التعريف بممارسة الهندسة المعمارية وتوجيهها نحو الجمهور غير المتخصص، فإنها تعمل حالياً على توسعة نطاق أنشطتها لتشمل كتابة الأفلام. ومع إنتاج الفيلم الوثائقي الحياة في بيوت ثوريّة حديثة تكون قد خطت خطوة أخرى نحو الجمهور، وبذلك تكون قد أعادت صلتها مع حبها الفطري للكتابة والتصوير الذي غذّته منذ الطفولة بالممارسة الدؤوبة للتصوير الفوتوغرافي والمشاركة في ورش الكتابة الخيالية

George Arbid is a Lebanese architect and historian with successive teaching positions at Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (ALBA), American University of Beirut (AUB) and the Lebanese University (UL). He holds a degree in Architecture from ALBA and a Doctor of Design degree from Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He was also a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the History, Theory and Criticism Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
His research and writings cover modern architecture in Lebanon and the Arab World. He is a co-founder and director of the Arab Center for Architecture (ACA) in Beirut. He served on several competitions and award juries, including the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2019 and the Transfer Architecture Video Award 2019. His latest publication (2022) is a co-edited book Designing Modernity, Architecture in the Arab World, 1945-1973. In 2023, Arbid curated the exhibition “A journey into Architecture Archives: Beirut, Cairo, Rabat” commissioned by the Sharjah Architecture Triennial.

George Arbid est un architecte et historien libanais qui a successivement enseigné à l’Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (ALBA), à l’Université Américaine (AUB) de Beyrouth et à l’Université Libanaise (UL). Il est titulaire d’un diplôme en architecture de l’ALBA et d’un doctorat en design de la Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Il a également été chercheur invité Fulbright au programme d’Histoire, de Théorie et de Critique du Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Ses recherches et ses écrits portent sur l’architecture moderne au Liban et dans le monde arabe. Il est co-fondateur et directeur de l’Arab Center for Architecture (ACA) à Beyrouth. Il a participé à plusieurs jurys de concours et de prix, dont le Prix de l’Union européenne pour l’architecture contemporaine – Mies van der Rohe Award 2019 et le Transfer Architecture Video Award 2019. Sa dernière publication (2022) est le livre qu’il a codirigé Designing Modernity, Architecture in the Arab World, 1945-1973. En 2023, Arbid a produit comme commissaire l’exposition A Journey into Architecture Archives : Beirut, Cairo, Rabat commandée par la Sharjah Architecture Triennial.

جورج عربيد مهندس معماريّ ومؤرّخ لبنانيّ، قام بالتدريس على التوالي في كلّ من الأكاديمية اللبنانية للفنون الجميلة (ألبا)، والجامعة الأمريكية في بيروت، والجامعة اللبنانية. حاز على شهادة في الهندسة المعمارية من جامعة (ألبا)، ودكتوراه في التصميم من جامعة هارفارد للدراسات العليا للتصميم. كما كان باحثًا-زائرًا ضمن إطار برنامج فولبرايت في مجالات التاريخ والنظريات والنقد، في معهد ماساتشوستس للتكنولوجيا.
تشمل أبحاثه وكتاباته الهندسة المعمارية الحديثة في لبنان والعالم العربيّ. وهو شريك- مؤسّس ومدير المركز العربيّ للهندسة المعمارية في بيروت. شارك في العديد من لجان تحكيم المسابقات ومنح الجوائز، منها جائزة الاتحاد الأوروبيّ للهندسة المعاصرة وجائزة “نقل فيديو الهندسة المعمارية” في العام ٢٠١٩. أحدث منشوراته (عام ٢٠٢٢) الكتاب الذي شارك في تحريره “تصميم الحداثة، العمارة في العالم العربيّ” ١٩٤٥-١٩٧٣.
في العام ٣٢٠٢، شارك عربيد في تأسيس معرض “رحلة في أرشيف العمارة: بيروت، القاهرة، الرباط” بتكليف من ترينالي الشارقة للعمارة.
