ENG. Considered one of the greatest portraitists of his time, John Singer Sargent left a lasting impression with his works, subtly blending the art of portraiture with the fashion of his era. This film reveals how Sargent captured the elegance, personality, and dress codes of his sitters, turning them into unique testimonies of their time. Filmed at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and Tate Britain in London, the exhibition highlights Sargent’s power to express distinctive personalities, power dynamics, and gender identities during this fascinating period of cultural renewal.

يُعتبر جون سنغر سارجنت أحد أعظم رسامي البورتريه في عصره، فقد لامس الأفئدة بأعماله التي أجادت مزج فن البورتريه مع الموضة الرائجة في ذلك الحين. يكشف هذا الفيلم كيف جسّد سارجنت أناقة عارضاته وشخصياتهن وقواعد لباسهن، حتى يتحوّلن إلى شاهداتٍ على عصرهنّ. صُوّر هذا المعرض في متحف الفنون الجميلة في بوسطن ومتحف تيت بريطانيا في لندن ليكشف عن قدرة سارجنت على إبراز الشخصيات المميزة وديناميكيات السلطة والهويات الجنسية خلال تلك الحقبة المذهلة من التجدّد الثقافي.

FR. Considéré comme l’un des plus grands portraitistes de son époque, John Singer Sargent marquait les esprits avec ses œuvres, mêlant subtilement l’art du portrait à la mode de son temps. Ce film révèle comment Sargent capturait l’élégance, la personnalité et les codes vestimentaires de ses modèles pour en faire des témoignages uniques de leur époque. Tournée au Museum of Fine Arts de Boston et à la Tate Britain de Londres, l’exposition révèle le pouvoir de Sargent à exprimer des personnalités distinctes, des dynamiques de pouvoir et des identités de genre durant cette période fascinante de renouveau culturel.

ENG. David Bickerstaff is a British filmmaker, artist, and co-director at Seventh Art Productions. He is best known for directing and co-writing numerous films in the Exhibition on Screen series, which brings major art exhibitions and artists’ lives to cinemas worldwide. His acclaimed documentaries include Van Gogh: A New Way of Seeing, Rembrandt, Michelangelo: Love and Death (screened during BAFF 2017) et Girl with a Pearl Earring (screened during BAFF 2018). With a background in visual arts and multimedia, Bickerstaff brings a richly artistic perspective to filmmaking. He has collaborated closely with Phil Grabsky and has also created award-winning independent films exploring culture, history, and human experience.

دايفيد بيكرستاف: مخرجٌ وفنانٌ بريطانيٌ والمدير المشارك لشركة ’سفنث آرت’ للإنتاج. اشتهر بفضل أفلامه التي أخرجها ضمن سلسلة Exhibition on Screen التي تنقل إلى الشاشة أكبر المعارض وحياة أهمّ الفنانين. ومن بين أشهر أفلامه الوثاقية Van Gogh : A New Way of Seeing ” فان غوغ: طريقة جديدة للرؤية “و Rembrandt وMichelangelo : Love and Death  “مايكل أنجلو: الحب والموت ” (الذي عُرض في مهرجان بيروت للأفلام الفنية عام 2017) و Girl with a Pearl Earring “الفتاة ذات القرط اللؤلؤ” (الذي عُرض في مهرجان بيروت للأفلام الفنية عام 2018). يُضفي بيكستاف، المدعوم بخلفيةٍ في عالم الفنون البصرية والوسائط المتعددة، على أفلامه رؤيةً فنيّةً فريدةً. وهو دائم التعاون مع فيل غرابسكي ويُخرج أفلامًا مستقلّةً عن الفن والتاريخ والثقافة.

FR. David Bickerstaff est un réalisateur et artiste britannique, co-directeur de Seventh Art Productions. Il est reconnu pour ses films réalisés dans le cadre de la série Exhibition on Screen, qui porte à l’écran les grandes expositions et les vies d’artistes majeurs. Parmi ses documentaires les plus acclamés figurent Van Gogh : A New Way of Seeing, Rembrandt, Michelangelo : Love and Death (projeté durant le BAFF 2017) et Girl with a Pearl Earring (projeté durant le BAFF 2018). Issu des arts visuels et du multimédia, Bickerstaff apporte une approche artistique singulière à ses films. Il collabore étroitement avec Phil Grabsky et réalise également des films indépendants sur l’art, l’histoire et la culture.
