ENG. Turandot is one of Giacomo Puccini’s most iconic operas. Inspired by Persian tales and set in ancient China, it weaves a powerful story of love, power, and redemption. At its heart is a beautiful yet unyielding princess who poses deadly riddles to her suitors: failure leads to death. The drama intensifies when a mysterious prince, Calaf, accepts the challenge, risking everything to win Turandot’s heart. In this bold new staging, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei reimagines the opera through a contemporary lens, infusing it with themes of surveillance, resistance, and displacement—making Turandot resonate powerfully with today’s world.

الإخراج والموقع وتصميم الأزياء والفيديوهات: آي واي واي؛ الفرقة الموسيقية بقيادة أوكسانا لينيف؛ لقطات الفيلم: كلوديا دي توما في مسرح الأوبرا في روما. تُعتبر ’توراندوت‘ واحدةً من المسرحيات الأوبرالية الأكثر رمزيةً لدى جاكومو بوتشيني، إذ يروي قصّةً عن الحب والسلطة والخلاص، مستوحاةً من الحكايات الفارسية ومُتّخذةً من الصين القديمة مسرحًا لها. يدور محور القصّة حول أميرةٍ ذات جمالٍ فاتنٍ تطرح ألغازًا قاتلةً على من يتقدّم لخطبتها، وفي حال فشلوا يصبح الموت مُحتّمًا عليهم. تتأجّج الأحداث عندما يقبل أميرٌ غامضٌ يُدعى كالاف التحدي ويكون مستعدًا لفعل أي شيء للفوز بقلب توراندوت. وفي هذه النسخة الجريئة، يعيد الفنان الصيني آي وي وي تقديم العمل بإخراجٍ يتماشى مع عصرنا، فيتطرّق إلى موضوع المراقبة والمقاومة والنزوح، ليمنح العمل صدىً أقوى في يومنا الحالي.

FR. Turandot est l’un des opéras les plus emblématiques de Giacomo Puccini. Inspiré de contes persans et situé dans la Chine ancienne, il raconte une histoire d’amour, de pouvoir et de rédemption. Au centre du récit, une princesse à la beauté glaciale pose des énigmes mortelles à ses prétendants : en cas d’échec, c’est la mort assurée. Le drame s’intensifie lorsqu’un prince mystérieux, Calaf, relève le défi, prêt à tout pour conquérir le cœur de Turandot. Dans cette mise en scène audacieuse, l’artiste chinois Ai Weiwei réinvente l’œuvre en la projetant dans notre époque, abordant des thèmes comme la surveillance, la résistance et le déplacement, et offrant à Turandot une résonance puissante aujourd’hui.
