ENG. The film sheds light on the role of contemporary art in the greatest challenge of our time: the climate crisis. Journalist Leonie Sontheimer takes us on a journey to influential artists such as Olafur Eliasson, Sebastião Salgado and Agnes Denes. Their works inspire, provoke and open up new perspectives on the subject – from Europe to the Global South. However, the film goes beyond examining the art itself; it also questions its creators, the existing structures, and the flourishing market that imposes its rules.
يسلط الفيلم الضوء على دور الفن المُعاصر في مواجهة التحدي الأكبر الذي يشهده عصرنا الحالي المُتمثّل في الأزمة المُناخية. ترافقنا الصحفية ليوني سونتيمر في مقابلةٍ مع فنانين مؤثّرين من أمثال أولافور إلياسون وسيباستيو سلغادو وأغنيس دينيس، الذين تتحوّل أعمالهم إلى مصدر إلهامٍ وتحفيزٍ وتفتح أفاقٍ جديدةٍ أمام هذا الموضوع – من أوروبا إلى جنوب العالم. لكن الفيلم لا يقف عند إعادة النظر في الفن بحدّ ذاته؛ بل يتخطى ذلك إلى مراجعة الفنانين وهيكليات عالم الفن والسوق المتنامية التي تفرض قواعدها.
FR. Le film met en lumière le rôle de l’art contemporain face au plus grand défi de notre époque : la crise climatique. La journaliste Leonie Sontheimer nous emmène à la rencontre d’artistes influents tels qu’Olafur Eliasson, Sebastião Salgado et Agnes Denes. Leurs œuvres inspirent, provoquent et ouvrent de nouvelles perspectives sur le sujet — de l’Europe au Sud global. Mais le film ne se limite pas à l’examen de l’art lui-même ; il questionne également ses créateurs, les structures en place et le marché florissant qui impose ses règles.

ENG. Mathias Frick, architect and film director, specializes in cultural documentaries—focusing on art, architecture, and jazz. In 2006, he founded Film Moment. His work, commissioned by ARTE, 3sat and others, has aired internationally and featured at major festivals. Among his films Tadao Ando – From Emptiness to Infinity (2013), screened during BAFF 2015, Claude Monet, the Painter’s Gaze (2020) & Abstract and Radical, Mondrian’s Legacy (2023). Mathias Frick has collaborated with over 40 museums and 30 artists across Europe.
ماتياس فريك: مهندس معماري ومخرج متخصّص بالوثائقيات الثقافية، لا سيما في مجال الفن والعمارة والجاز. في العام 2006 أسّس ’فيلم مومنت‘. وقد شاركت أفلامه في مهرجاناتٍ عريقةٍ بعد عرضها على الشاشات العالمية (مثل آرتي و3 سات)، ومن بينها: Tadao Ando – From Emptiness to Infinity “تاداو أندو – من الفراغ إلى اللانهاية”(2013)؛ Claude Monet, le regard du peintre “كلود مونيه، نظرة الرسّام” (2020)؛Mondrian, l’héritage radical “موندريان، الإرث الرديكالي” (2023).وقد تعاون مع أكثر من 40 متحفٍ و30 فنانٍ من مختلف أرجاء أوروبا.
FR. Mathias Frick, architecte et réalisateur, est spécialisé dans le documentaire culturel, en particulier sur l’art, l’architecture et le jazz. Il fonde Film Moment en 2006. Ses films, diffusés internationalement (ARTE, 3sat), ont été présentés dans de grands festivals. Parmi eux : Tadao Ando – From Emptiness to Infinity (2013) et projeté durant le BAFF 2015, Claude Monet, le regard du peintre (2020) et Mondrian, l’héritage radical (2023). Il collabore avec plus de 40 musées et trente artistes à travers l’Europe.

ENG. Dr. Joanna Doummar is the Chair of the Department of Earth Sciences and an associate professor of groundwater hydrology at the American University of Beirut. Joanna’s research focuses on water quality and quantity assessments in Mediterranean, semi-arid, and snow governed karst and fractured aquifers. Her research projects include the high-resolution monitoring and collection of spring and climate time series data, subsurface characterization, and development of numerical groundwater flow models. This approach is implemented to drive, using science-supported evidence, policy and infrastructural interventions for groundwater protection and sustainability on pilot scale.
د .جوانا دمّر، مديرة قسم علوم الأرض وأستاذة مساعدة في هيدرولوجيا المياه الجوفية في الجامعة الأمريكية في بيروت. تتركّز أبحاثها على تقييم جودة المياه وكمياتها في طبقات المياه الجوفية الكارستية والمتشققة في المناطق المتوسطية وشبه القاحلة، بالإضافة إلى المناطق ذات الطبيعة الثلجية. كما تتضمن مشاريعها البحثية عمليات رصدٍ دقيقٍ وجمع البيانات حول الينابيع والمناخ ضمن تسلسلها الزمني وتحديد خصائص طبقات الأرض الباطنية، فضلاً عن وتطوير نماذج رقمية عن تدفق المياه الجوفية. وهي تستند إلى الأدلة العلمية بغية الوصول إلى هدف هذا النهج الرامي إلى رسم مسارٍ يساهم في توجيه الجهود المبذولة على مستوى السياسات والهيكليات لحماية المياه الجوفية واستدامتها ضمن نطاقٍ تجريبيٍ.
FR. Dr. Joanna Doummar est la directrice du département des sciences de la Terre et professeure associée en hydrologie des eaux souterraines à l’Université Américaine de Beyrouth. Ses recherches portent sur l’évaluation de la qualité et de la quantité d’eau dans les aquifères karstiques et fracturés des régions méditerranéennes, semi-arides et soumises à un régime neigeux. Ses projets de recherche incluent la surveillance haute résolution et la collecte de données chronologiques sur les sources et le climat, la caractérisation du sous-sol, ainsi que le développement de modèles numériques d’écoulement des eaux souterraines. Cette approche vise à orienter, sur la base de preuves scientifiques, des interventions politiques et infrastructurelles pour la protection et la durabilité des eaux souterraines à l’échelle pilote.
