ENG. Ai Weiwei’s Turandot follows renowned Chinese artist, Ai Weiwei, as he brings his artistic vision to Puccini’s Turandot at the Rome Opera House during his operatic directorial debut, using the opera as a backdrop to address many issues that plague mankind including the Ukraine war, refugee crises, the Covid pandemic, and more. The documentary film reveals that, hundred years after its creation, Puccini’s opera remains as vital and relevant as ever — while also highlighting Ai Weiwei’s powerful stance against authority and his advocacy for justice, human rights and freedom of expression.

يتتبّع الفيلم خطى الفنان الصيني الشهير أثناء عمله في إخراج العمل الأوبرالي ’توراندوت’، الذي ألّفه بوتشيني، على خشبة أوبرا روما، ليكون ذلك أول عملٍ أوبرالي له. وهو ينطلق من هذا العمل الرمزي الذي يطعّمه برؤيته الفنية الخاصة ليتناول أهم القضايا المطروحة في عصرنا الحالي، مثل الحرب على أوكرانيا وأزمة الهجرة وجائحة كورونا وغيرها من المسائل. انطلاقًا من هذا الوثائقي، نكتشف أن هذا العمل الأوبرالي الذي وضعه بوتشيني لا يزال يحاكي الوقت الراهن على الرغم من مرور قرنٍ على تأليفه. كما يُظهر الفيلم إلى العلن مدى انخراط آي واي واي في هذه الأحداث، إذ ينتقد السلطات الحاكمة ويدافع عن العدالة وحقوق الإنسان وحرية التعبير بلا هداوةٍ.

FR. Ai Weiwei’s Turandot suit le célèbre artiste chinois alors qu’il met en scène Turandot de Puccini à l’Opéra de Rome, signant ainsi sa toute première mise en scène lyrique. Il s’empare de cette œuvre emblématique pour y insuffler sa vision artistique et y aborder des enjeux majeurs qui traversent notre époque : la guerre en Ukraine, les crises migratoires, la pandémie de Covid, entre autres.
À travers ce documentaire, on découvre combien l’opéra de Puccini, un siècle après sa création, reste d’une étonnante actualité. Le film met également en lumière l’engagement d’Ai Weiwei : sa critique des pouvoirs en place, sa défense inlassable de la justice, des droits humains et de la liberté d’expression.

His work bridges film, art, fashion, and performance, with acclaimed documentaries such as Ars Erotica (Sky Arte, 2023), Le Creature di Prometeo/Capucci, and Origen. He has collaborated with top cultural institutions and brands including the Rome Opera House, Netflix, Bulgari, and Dior, directing campaigns and productions featuring artists like Ai Weiwei, Sofia Coppola, and Roberto Bolle.

ماكسيم ديريفيانكو، مخرجٌ حائزٌ على العديد من الجوائز، مقيمٌ في روما ووالداه راقصا باليه. يتعمّق عمله في استكشاف الروابط بين السينما والفن والموضة والعروض الفنية، عن طريق الأفلام الوثائقية الشهيرة مثل Ars Erotica   “فن الإروتيكا” (سكاي آرتي، 2023) و Le Creature di Prometeo/Capucci et Origen “مخلوقات بروميثيوس/ كابوتشي وأورويغانوس”. وقد تعاون مع كبرى المؤسسات والعلامات التجارية الدولية، مثل دار أوبرا روما ونيتفليكس وبولغاري وديور، من خلال إدارة حملاتهم وإنتاجاتهم إلى جانب فنانين مثل آي وي وي أو صوفيا كابّولا أو روبيرتو بولّي.

FR. Maxim Derevianko est un réalisateur primé basé à Rome, né de parents danseurs de ballet. Son travail explore les liens entre cinéma, art, mode et performance, à travers des documentaires remarqués tels que Ars Erotica (Sky Arte, 2023), Le Creature di Prometeo/Capucci et Origen. Il a collaboré avec de grandes institutions et marques internationales comme l’Opéra de Rome, Netflix, Bulgari et Dior, dirigeant des campagnes et productions avec des artistes tels que Ai Weiwei, Sofia Coppola ou Roberto Bolle.
