ENG. During the preliminary round, there are 160 of them. Then, about 80. Then 40. At last, only 10 lucky ones make it to the final. These are the contestants in the legendary International Chopin Piano Competition, held every five years in Warsaw, Poland. Pianoforte is a powerful, intimate look into the lives of young musicians chasing one of classical music’s most prestigious dreams: winning the International Chopin Piano Competition.

FR. Lors du tour préliminaire, ils sont 160. Puis environ 80. Ensuite 40. Et enfin, seulement 10 chanceux accèdent à la finale. Ce sont les candidats du légendaire Concours international de piano Chopin, organisé tous les cinq ans à Varsovie, en Pologne. Pianoforte offre un regard puissant et intime sur la vie de jeunes musiciens qui poursuivent l’un des rêves les plus prestigieux de la musique classique : remporter le Concours international de piano Chopin.

Film Director

ENG. Jakub Piątek is a graduate of the Polish National Film School in Łódź. Before pursuing directing, he worked as a journalist and cultural manager. His debut short film, Mother (2009), produced by Wajda Studio, was screened at over fifty international festivals and received multiple awards. In 2014, he completed the documentary One Man Show, which premiered at the Krakow Film Festival and DOK Leipzig. His feature-length debut, Prime Time, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2021. That same year, he began teaching fiction directing at the Polish National Film School.

ياكوب بيانتيك، تخرّج في المعهد الوطني للسينما في وودج في بولونيا، وقبل أن يُكرّس عمله للإخراج، عمل صحافيًا ومسؤولاً ثقافيًا. كان فيلمه القصير الأول Mother “أم” (2009) من إنتاج ’وجدا ستوديو‘ وعُرض في أكثر من خمسين احتفالٍ دوليٍ وحصد الكثير من الجوائز. وفي العام 2014 أخرج فيلمه الوثائقي One Man Show “ون مان شو” الذي عُرض للمرة الأولى في مهرجان كراكوف للأفلام وفي مهرجان دوك لايبزيغ. وفي العام 2021 عُرض فيلمه الطويل الأول Prime Time “ساعة الذروة” في العرض قبل الافتتاحي من فعاليات مهرجان صاندانس، وفي العام نفسه بدأ رحلة تعليم مادة إخراج الأفلام الروائية في المعهد الوطني للسينما في وودج.

FR. Jakub Piątek est diplômé de l’École nationale de cinéma de Łódź, en Pologne. Avant de se consacrer à la réalisation, il a travaillé comme journaliste et responsable culturel. Son premier court métrage, Mother (2009), produit par le Wajda Studio, a été présenté dans plus de cinquante festivals internationaux et a reçu de nombreuses récompenses. En 2014, il réalise le documentaire One Man Show, présenté en première au Festival du film de Cracovie et à DOK Leipzig. En 2021, son premier long métrage, Prime Time, est présenté en avant-première au Festival de Sundance. La même année, il commence à enseigner la réalisation de fiction à l’École nationale de cinéma de Łódź.
