Love from Afar. In 13th-century Tripoli, Countess Clémence embodies the ideal of the troubadour Jaufré Rudel, who decides to embark on an oriental odyssey to find her. But Thanatos, jealous of Eros, is at the rendezvous: illness puts an end to Jaufré’s life, and he dies in the arms of the Countess, whom he has finally found.
Based on a libretto by Amin Maalouf and music by Kaija Saariaho, Love from Afar is an opera in five acts that brings together two different worlds racing to reunite: medieval lyricism sung in a modern key, logorrhea sung on minimalistic notes, a passionate West reaching out to a hospitable East opening its arms… all separated, then reunited by the blue and light of the Mediterranean.
الحب عن بعد. تقيم الكونتيسة كليمنس في طرابلس في القرن الثالث عشر وهي تجسّد الصورة المثالية التي تخيّلها التروبادور جوفري روديل الذي يقرّر منذ تلك اللحظة الانطلاق في ملحمةٍ شرقيةٍ بحثاً عنها. لكن تاناتوس الذي تشتعل الغيرة في قلبه من إيروس قد ضرب موعداً: يضع المرض حداً لحياة جوفري الذي يموت بين يدي الكونتيسة التي وجدها بعد عناءٍ.
“الحب عن بعد” هو عمل أوبرالي من خمسة فصول يستند إلى كتاب أمين معلوف وموسيقى كايا سآرياهو، وهو يجمع بين عالمين مختلفين يطوقان للالتقاء : عملٌ غنائي تدور أحداثه في القرون الوسطى بألحانٍ عصرية الإيقاع وفيضٌ من كلماتٍ يُغنّى على نغمات مبسّطة ليروي قصة الغرب الشغوف الذي يمدّ يده للشرق المضياف الفاتح ذراعيه… يفترقان ثم يجتمعان حول زرقة المتوسط وضوء نوره.
L’Amour de loin. Dans le Tripoli du XIIIe siècle se trouve la comtesse Clémence incarnant l’idéal du troubadour Jaufré Rudel qui décide dès lors de s’aventurer dans une odyssée orientale à sa recherche. Mais ayant jalousie d’Éros, Thanatos est au rendez-vous : la maladie met fin à la vie de Jaufré qui meurt dans les bras de la comtesse enfin retrouvée.
Sur un livret d’Amin Maalouf et une musique de Kaija Saariaho, L’Amour de loin est un opéra en cinq actes qui réunit deux mondes différents se précipitant à se réunir : un lyrisme médiéval chanté sur un ton moderne, une logorrhée chantée sur des notes minimalistes, un Occident passionné qui tend la main à un Orient hospitalier ouvrant ses bras…le tout, séparé, puis réuni par le bleu et la lumière de la Méditerranée.
